SATELLITES, let’s face it it’s hard to get along without them these days even when driving. A voice from somewhere is beamed up 250 miles or so to an earth orbiting satellite, from there the voice is redirected straight to your pocket or purse and then in turn wirelessly jumps into your cars stereo and [...]

Great British Cars – The Jowett Jupiter

WELL, IT’S been well over seven years since I started writing this column about Great British Cars and during this time I have written about some history on every major British car maker past and present. Or so I thought. In fact, I missed one, not purposely I assure you, as this company produced many [...]

Great British Cars – September 2012

THERE HAVE been ups and downs for every motor car manufacturer over the years. Some of them have been related to the economy rather than their products but a poor economy or recession hurts the industry equally. It is true that some car makers are better at surviving an economic downturn than others due to [...]

Great British Cars – Jaguar Mk2

THROUGHOUT the years the most revered motor cars have been sports cars. THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY of the James Bond films is coming up, and to commemorate it the Beaulieu National Motor Museum in Hampshire is putting on an event call “Bond in Motion” featuring a display of 50 vehicles used in the James Bond films over the last 50 years, including of course the World’s most famous [...]

The Lola racing company entered administration last month, and, unless they find an investor to rescue the cash strapped company it [...]

In fact, it wasn’t really an invention; more of an accumulation of different inventions spanning many years, providing us with what we now consider as [...]

Great British Cars – April 2012

REALITY or fiction? The Jaguar CX-16 … the word on the street is this latest conceptual Jaguar design is going to have its “C” removed and become a reality for 2013. It’s not official as yet but all the experts agree that of all the many concept cars introduced at the major Auto shows, by [...]

Great British Cars – March 2012

PART TWO MINI SAGA CONTINUED IN LAST month’s column you’ll remember I’d been told that I would have to pay $3,400 for a clutch repair when I was previously told my Mini was fully warranted. Well I baulked at that and told them I would take it elsewhere as $3,400 seemed damn steep for a [...]

Great British Cars – February 2012

MY MINI COOPER S had its fourth birthday a couple of months ago; it definitely wasn’t worth celebrating, as the warranty ran out on it the same day. It was that four-year warranty of which the first three saw it maintenance free, or so I was led to believe. “No worries” quoted the salesman who [...]
