Coronation Street Monthly Update August 2012

THERE’S waltzing in Weatherfield this month as Hayley gains her bronze badge in ballroom dancing with Norris’ help. Kitted out in fascinator and frock, Hayley glides across the floor with Norris as her guide while back home in the cafe, Roy challenges Mary to a game of chess. But it looks like Mary’s got more on her mind than castles and knights and wants to lead Roy a merry dance of her own. Roy’s oblivious to Mary’s attentions but Hayley’s starting to wonder what’s going on.

Marcus and Sean split up with some tearful scenes after Sean accuses Marcus of having a fling with a work colleague. Poor Sean, he doesn’t do his self-respect any favours when he storms into the hospital accusing Marcus of all sorts and making a right show of himself. Marcus moves out of Eileen’s and in with Maria and Liam which is uncomfortable viewing because we know Maria’s got a crush on Marcus but he doesn’t know that just yet.

Lloyd returns this month, kisses Steve hello and gives him a welcome hug – the Odd Couple are back together! Steve offers Lloyd a driving job back at Streetcars but Lloyd gets the wrong end of the stick and thinks he’s coming back as partner and so the two of them fall out and their friendship turns fractious. It gets even worse when Lloyd sets up a rival cab firm and steals Streetcars’ contracts and a lady driver. But it’s not too long before the two of them see sense, agree to disagree and go back into partnership together. Eileen’s happy the lads have patched up because she’s managed to negotiate herself a pay rise, three extra days leave, the title of Office Manager and a free packet of biscuits in the cab office.

Peter’s not happy this month when he finds out that his son Simon is living with Leanne and her ex-husband Nick. Peter pins Nick up against the wall, breathes down his neck and shouts quietly in his ear that if he should so much as harm a hair on little Simon’s head now he’s living with Nick and Leanne, he’ll stick a HotPot somewhere the sun don’t shine. Peter then gives Nick a good thumping right into the hostess trolley (always a painful spot) and Gail can’t wait to express her utter and total disgust at the thought of Nick and Leanne back together. “Battersby’s not a swear word, you know,” Nick tells his mum.

As Carla struggles to cope with Peter going off the rails thinking he’s going to lose Simon, she’s got even more to worry about when he brother Rob turns up, fresh out of prison, and he moves in with Michelle.

Elsewhere, Izzy tells Gary she’s pregnant and he’s over the moon. Izzy’s not right keen on telling dad Owen about the baby news just yet because she knows what his reaction will be. Owen’s scared of course, scared that Izzy won’t be able to cope with a baby and being a blunt sort of bloke, he doesn’t mince words when he finally spits out his concerns to his daughter: “You’ve only been back together five minutes and he’s not long been off his rocker!”

Beth and Tracy move out of No 13 but where will the girls move to? Ken refuses to take Tracy back and so it’s left to Emily to offer Tracy and Amy the spare room at her house. Norris isn’t best pleased to have a serial killer under his roof and Tracy plays to his paranoia, waving a very sharp knife around the tea table, ensuring Norris’ nose is kept well and truly out of her trough.
