SEX, LIES and Videotape: That is
the month wot wuz in Albert Square...
The new Mitchells, Ronnie and
Roxy, have been watching the Vic while Peggy, Phil and Ben have
been away visiting Grant on their Let’s Forget Stella Tour. And
Ronnie and Roxy have done a stellar job upholding the Mitchell
family traditions, so the anarchy and mayhem have continued on as
if everything was normal. Ah, bless. When Peggy and Ben return
from their trip without Phil, who has apparently disappeared,
Peggy doesn’t want to admit there’s a problem. But soon he does
return, drunk and disorderly (just like his father) and Peggy
tries mightily to keep him away from a frightened Ben. He can’t
stop drinking.
Over at Chez Wicks, the problems
are even bigger, and involve the Old Bill. The story that Deano
and Chelsea had told the police about Sean standing over Patrick
was all a lie and it starts to fall apart. It was they who stole
the CCTV tape out of the Mini Mart; the tape that would exonerate
Sean (who’s still in jail), and show that Lucy’s friend Craig was
the one who attacked Patrick. It was Chelsea’s idea to frame Sean
and Deano went along, but now he wants that tape turned in but
Chelsea is still saying no. While they are debating, Kevin sees
the tape and goes to turn it in himself, but Shirley convinces him
not to and to burn it instead to let Sean rot to save Deano. But
Carly, unbeknownst to all, has made a copy, and after finding out
that Kevin destroyed the copy he had, she turns her copy in
herself and then leaves Walford. The police then descend to arrest
Chelsea and Deano for giving false testimony. After getting bail,
Chelsea loses her job, as does Denise, and Deano can’t face the
stares out on the market, so he gives up his stall. He and Kevin
want to run away, but can’t do it.
Elsewhere, the relationship
between Minty and Garry’s mum is causing friction between them ...
Libby gets her A- level results: All A’s. Billy is jealous of
Jase’s attentions to pregnate Honey...and Dot gets a computer.
Across the Square, Ian has his
own problems, namely the bad seed, Lucy. She starts seeing Craig
again and runs away with him to a hotel then. She gets scared
though when he says he wants to take their physical relationship
farther, flashing a gun in the process. First, Lucy hides in the
bathroom, and then hatches a plan. She tells Craig she knows where
she can get the money they need to run away. He drives her back to
the Square, where she runs into her house, rips her blouse
(herself) then cries and tells Ian that Craig had taken her away
against her will. The police had already been around asking
questions about Craig’s whereabouts, and as the police descend on
Craig’s car, he stuffs his gun in Lucy’s bag. After arresting
Craig, they return Lucy’s bag to her without ever searching it (is
it no wonder these coppers can never catch anyone?) with the gun
still in it. She hides it in her closet.
Ian thinks that things have
gotten back to normal – or whatever passes for normal in Walford –
but Lucy soon attempts to run away again. This time, when caught,
she claims it is to meet up with her Mum, Cindy. She is convinced
that she is really still alive, that Ian lied about her death, and
she has been communicating with her via the Internet. Ian and Jane
take her computer away. But strange things have also started to
happen; packages have been delivered to Ian: flowers reading RIP,
a coffin, and a pig’s heart. The message ‘I’m back’ is scrawled
across the mirror and Cindy’s perfume was in the air at Number 45.
The mystery tormenter even tries to make Ian think it’s Jane doing
it, by somehow getting into the house and slipping the coffin
receipt into Jane’s bedside table. For a while Ian believes it is
Jane. Then a cryptic message appears in Lucy’s email account and
sends Ian on a wild goose chase to meet up with his mystery
tormenter, at an abandoned apartment block. After much freaking
out by Ian, the tormenter finally appears, and it is Steven! Yes,
Steven Beale, back from New Zealand; now older, bigger and with a
new head. Duf, duf.
