Queen Elizabeth II To Visit NIreland In June
BUCKINGHAM PALACE says Queen Elizabeth II will visit Northern Ireland next month as part of her Diamond Jubilee tour of the United Kingdom.
The Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, will visit June 26-27 as part of a tour marking her 60 years on the throne.
The 86-year-old monarch will visit Belfast and Enniskillen, where 11 people died in a 1987 Irish Republican Army bombing.
Previous royal visits to Northern Ireland have been kept secret until the last minute. Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson said Thursday it was “a sign of progress” that details of the trip had been disclosed.
There has been speculation that Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, a former IRA commander, might meet the queen, in what would be a symbolic moment of reconciliation.
