UJ’s American in the UK
Born in sunny California to a Liverpudlian and Texan, I think I have a different take on life. I have been raised with the best of both worlds, and am lucky enough to have dual nationality, but consider myself American through and through. I grew up in America and spent summers in the UK. Since I’ve lived both in California and London, I have a unique perspective on life in the UK and America. While going to University in London, I produced a short film about Fisher FC, a small yet crazy football club. It was quite an experience … I am now moving back to the UK, pursuing my PhD at Greenwich University in London. When I’m in the UK … I long for LA, In LA I long for UK, a little case of grass is greener. C’est la vie.
I welcome UJ readers contacting me with questions. I can talk with passion and knowledge about both places. Just ask me, I’ll tell you what I know.
Feel free to contact me here on the UJ site, or at catsnitzer@gmail.com, or Facebook.

So here it is time to take off, sitting on the LAX tarmac (FYI it is very annoying to type on an iPhone), I am looking forward to being in London again, I am looking more forward to acquiring the two seats next to me and spreading out, then passing out. When flying, I always attempt to charm the person checking me in to give an aisle seat with no one next to me (if you are lacking in the charm dept. you can do this yourself by checking in online), once you have done this, and are on the plane EXPAND, my lovely mom taught me this. Right now my purse and pillow are in the seat next to me, coats are on the third seat, now just hoping someone does not appear. I am already testy after leaving the sleeping pills at home. Ugh!
I got the three seats, So I am here.YAY!
Slept 7 out of the 9 hours across the Atlantic.
Any American coming here PLEASE remember to look the opposite way when crossing the road, after some wine the knowledge of this went out the window as a car almost smashed into me. Look both ways, then do it again. (Yes this looks a little Linda Blair-ish a la Exorcist, but it is better than getting your head knocked off).
I forgot how wonderful this country is. I checked into my hotel and went to the pub next door. I met a girl in the bar and after a few drinks, we became fast friends. So much so we are going to my Canuck friend’s party tomorrow.
Customer Service was something I used to constantly complain about here in jolly old England, I take it all back. It has been above and beyond, from the taxi driver to the security guard that walked me across the street to buy some wine, everyone has been amazing.
The city has a life and vibe all it’s own, and thankfully I am back to enjoy every second.

Dear Cat, loved your column in Union Jack. Picked it up in a pub in Astoria, Oregon, USA. My daughter just finished University of Aberdeen, UK and is now working in Ft. William, Scotland, UK. How do you look into dual citizenship there?
Looking forward to more articles! Sincerely, Laurel
